About Us

The Oyster Shell is an award-winning fish and chip shop takeaway in the heart of Moorland Road in Bath. A traditional chippy with a focus on the best of British fish and chips cooked to order, The Oyster Shell was brought to life by the team behind The Scallop Shell in 2019, and is now proudly under new ownership.

The Oyster Shell is a family business through and through, run day-to-day by husband-and-wife team Dan and Sophie. The duo brings a passion for seafood and many years of industry experience to their fish and chip shop, which serves up restaurant-quality food to takeaway.

The Oyster Shell is open for lunch, Tuesday to Saturday, from 12noon – 2.30pm, and in the evenings from 4.30 – 8.30pm, Tuesday to Thursday, and 4.30 – 9pm every Friday and Saturday. You can order Click + Collect to pick up from the shop or Delivery Tuesday to Saturday evenings.

Dan and Sophie were an integral part of the team when The Oyster Shell made the Top 10 for Takeaway of the Year at The National Fish & Chip Awards 2023 and have since gone on to see their business named as one of the UK’s 50 Best Fish & Chip Takeaways of 2023 in Fry Magazine’s prestigious list.

Our Menu

The Oyster Shell flies the flag for a sustainable and responsibly sourced catch and we’re passionate about provenance and providing the best possible quality. Our MSC-approved cod is caught in the North Atlantic Ocean and prepared and frozen at sea within a few hours, ensuring fantastic freshness and consistency. It’s also a lean source of protein, high in Omega 3.

You’ll find the finest Scottish langoustine tails in our scampi, beautiful day boat Cornish haddock, and locally sourced Cumberland sausages, chicken breasts and British beef from S & L Banable Butchers on Moorland Road. Our chips are cut daily from the best seasonal spuds sourced by Mitchell Potatoes and everything else – from the cheese & leek fritters to our cod fishcakes, tofish and sauces – are homemade in house.

We are proud to fry in a custom-built environmentally friendly range using TQ Omega Plus oil, which is high in monounsaturated fats, Omega 9 and also GM and allergen free. We can grill fish to order if you’re gluten free or fancy a lighter option, and while our chips are cooked in a separate pan and oil to the fish, they may contain traces of gluten. You can make any special requests in the notes section of our online ordering system before checkout. Please advise the team of any allergies or dietary requirements before you order.

If you’re looking for a little extra value, we serve a range of ‘Lunch Specials’ for £7.50 between 12noon and 2.30pm, Tuesday – Saturday, offer a ‘Fisherman’s Supper’ haddock & chips for £8.50 daily, with smaller portions on our Kids’ Menu and single items available. All of our food is served in fully recyclable packaging.
